The isolation of fungi from natural sources lies at the core of our research. Studying living cultures in the lab enables the discovery of new taxa and fungal metabolites, understanding their ecology and interactions with plants, and developing applied solutions based on fungi.
We keep a growing collection of fungal strains isolated from multiple locations, habitats and substrates, representing a broad biodiversity. We have made many of these strains available to the wider scientific community at the public strains collections of the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute and the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures.
Explore below the taxonomic composition of our collection, as well as data on individual fungi.
Note: Locations are slighly shifted to avoid overlap between markers.
